PUMPKIN SPICE, SPICE BABY! - Oceana Coffee 2022

PUMPKIN SPICE, SPICE BABY!

PUMPKIN SPICE, SPICE BABY!
It is a little crazy how many products at this time have a version that comes in Pumpkin Spice. I am not sure where our obsession with the fruit came from, yes it is a fruit! Was it Disney's influence with Cinderalla's coach turning into a pumpkin? Is it just our love of Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie, those flavors represent a warm hug from family members? Whatever it is, the population is certainly crazy for it, waiting patiently each year for the
pumpkin spice lattes to roll out.
This year many places started offering this seasonal flavor in August! Maybe in hopes of giving people a little bit of a warm hug in a cup, since we all have to be so distant these days....At Oceana Coffee we stuck to our calendar and began offering our signature syrup as soon as the pie pumpkins were available at our local grocery stores which was late Septmeber. Why do we wait?
At Oceana Coffee we bake actual pumkins and turn the cooked flesh into a puree which we incorporate into our housemade syrup.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

1.5 cups water

1.5 cups sugar

4 cinnamon sticks

1 tsp. ground nutmeg

1/2 tsp. ground ginger

1/2 tsp. ground cloves

3 tbsp. pumpkin puree

Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, stirring

occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Toss in the cinnamon sticks and whisk in

the remaining spices and the pumpkin puree. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring

frequently, without letting the mixture come to a boil. Remove from the heat and allow to cool

for 10-15 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth and store in your

container of choice. Store in the refrigerator.

2 tablespoons of pumpkin spice syrup per shot of espresso

How healthy are Pumpkins?
Pumpkins are actually packed with lots of nutrients that have amazing health benefits! We only use about 3 tablespoons of the puree per batch so we can't claim you will get amazing health benefits from our lattes.... or will you....? However, we can guarantee you the best warm hug in a mug on the planet when you combine it with our world class award winning espresso!
